French arms sales boomed in 2004
PARIS, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- French weapons exports jumped 60 percent in 2004, France's Defense Ministry said.
In a report to parliament, the ministry said arms exports had climbed to about $8.45 billion last year.
France is the world's third largest weapons exporter, behind the United States and Britain. Together, they account for three-quarters of world weapons exports.
At the same time, French weapons orders have dropped to just over $4 billion in 2004, compared to nearly $5 billion in 2003, the report said, in excerpts published in the French press.
Saudi Arabia is the top buyer of French weapons, the report said, followed by the United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Greece and the United Kingdom.
