UAE, Saudi Arabia continue border dispute
ABU DHABI [MENL] -- The United Arab Emirates has renewed its border dispute with Saudi Arabia.
The UAE government has issued a map that shows the emirates in Saudi territory. The new map has already been posted on the UAE Information and Culture Ministry.
Gulf diplomatic sources said the UAE map marked the latest step in a campaign by Abu Dhabi to renegotiate a 1974 border agreement with Riyad. In 2005, UAE President Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nayhan said the 1974 treaty was unjust and must be corrected.
The latest UAE map shows the boundaries of the emirates as extending west by more than 20 kilometers from the current international border. Under the UAE claim, the emirates could establish a land link to Qatar in the south.
