Pakistan expected to import gas from Russia: Musharraf

(Pakistan Media) RAWALPINDI: A seven-member Russian delegation comprising representatives from Russian academia and the media called on President General Pervez Musharraf on Tuesday.

The President exchanged views with the delegates on wide ranging topics, including excellent investment opportunities in Pakistan.
The President particularly referred to the potential for the supply of gas from Russia, electricity from Central Asian States and exploration of natural resources in Pakistan.

He spoke of the economic reforms and the steps taken by the government to boost the national economy and attract foreign investment by providing level-playing field.

The President recalled his excellent rapport with the Russian leadership and stressed on the need of greater interaction between the people of two countries.

He hoped that the visit of the delegation would contribute towards that end.

President Musharraf noted vast scope for economic cooperation between Pakistan and Russia and urged the private sectors of the two countries to interact with each other.

Areas of cooperation could be commerce, trade and joint venture investment in Pakistan, he added.

Development of education and improvement of the educational institutions was another area where Pakistan could benefit from Russian expertise, he said.

The members of the delegation appreciated the economic reforms in Pakistan which have attracted investors from all over the world. They also discussed with the President the concept of 'Enlightened Moderation' and Pakistan's role in the Islamic world.
