Pakistan tests nuclear-capable missile
ISN SECURITY WATCH (Monday, 20 February: 13.20 CET) – Pakistan has test-fired a short-range surface-to-surface nuclear-capable missile in undisclosed location, the Pakistani army confirmed.
The Hatf-II/Abdali ground-to-ground missile, which was test-fired on Sunday, has a range of 200 kilometers and can carry nuclear and other warheads.
According to a Pakistani military statement carried by news agencies, nucelar rival India was notified prior to the test-fire, in accordance with an agreement made last year.
The test comes as Pakistan’s military president Pervez Musharraf is due to visit China, a key ally and the country’s main weapons supplier.
Pakistan successfully test-fired its first nuclear-capable cruise missile in August last year.
