Two militants killed in Syrian clash

ISN SECURITY WATCH (Tuesday, 14 March: 17.10 CET) – Two Islamic militants died in a clash with Syrian security forces on Tuesday.

Syria's official SANA news agency reported: "Anti-terrorist forces killed criminal terrorist Mohammed Ali Nassif and his colleague Yasser Adawi, who belonged to the terrorist extremist group Jund al-Sham, in armed clashes early Tuesday in Zabadani."

The Zabadani region is situated 25km to the north of the capital Damascus.

A third Jund al-Sham ("Organization of the Soldiers of the Levant") militant was wounded during the exchange.

The organization is described in an Al Bawaba website report on the incident as the Syrian arm of al-Qaida.

According to Middle East Online, the militant movement first came to prominence in March 2005 when it claimed responsibility, through an internet message, for a suicide bombing attack on a Qatar theater that killed a British national.
