CHECHNYA: GUERILLAS THREATENS NEW ATTACKS ON RUSSIAN SOIL

Grozny, 24 April (AKI) - Chechen guerillas have threatened new attacks in Russia, in a message posted to Islamic internet sites, signed by the leader of one of the armed militia operating in Chechnya.

In his statement, the guerilla leader Mouladi Odoghov said his group intends to send suicide bombers onto Russian territory. Odoghov stated that his men reject Western democracy and want a state based on Islamic sharia law. "We need to carry out attacks throughout Russia not just in Chechnya" he said. Depite mediation efforts by the Russian authorities, last week there were new attacks in the area which caused 20 deaths.
