China to strengthen ties with Yemen
(UPI) - Chinese President Hu Jintao said Thursday China wants to strengthen relations with Yemen on issues involving trade and energy.
"China supports and welcomes the enterprises to increase their investment in the two countries, and is willing to expand cooperation with Yemen in such areas as energy, infrastructure and fishery," Hu said when meeting with visiting Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
Saleh said Yemen government is pleased with the progress of development of its bilateral relations with China.
Since establishing diplomatic relations 50 years ago, Saleh said trade between the two countries reached $3.5 billion in 2005.
China hopes to increase its presence in the Middle East in fields other than oil.
"China will work with the Arab nations, including Yemen, and the international community to further development and peace in the Middle East and Gulf region," Hu said.
