GAZA: ISLAMIC JIHAD SAYS IT LAUNCHED ROCKETS
Gaza City, 4 April (AKI) - Militants of the Palestinian group Islamic Jihad have claimed responsibility for launching Tuesday two homemade rockets from the northern Gaza Strip at a southern Israeli town. No damages or injuries were reported. Palestinian witnesses and security sources, said that in an apparent retaliatory attack, dozens of Israeli artillery shells landed at empty area in northern Gaza, causing no casualties.
Saraya al-Quds, the armed wing of Islamic Jihad, said in a pamphlet that its militants fired two homemade rockets at the Israeli coast town of Ashkelon.
"Our militants returned safe, although F16 fighter jets flew over the area," the pamphlet said.
Palestinian security sources said that the Israeli army citing security reasons, closed down the commercial crossing of Karni on the borders between eastern Gaza City and Israel on Tuesday, cutting movement of goods.
UN aid organisations have repeatedly warned that the closures threaten to plunge Gaza into a humanitarian crisis with food and money supplies running out.
