Fiji military head warns incoming government
ABC News Online: Fiji's military Commander Frank Bainimarama has vowed to fight the incoming government of the Fiji's ruling party all the way if it goes ahead with what he calls radical policies.
The final seat has been declared and Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase's SDL Party won it, bringing its total seats to 36, which is an absolute majority.
As well, the two independents who were elected joined the SDL Caucus meeting this morning which elected Mr Qarase as their leader.
Military Commander Frank Bainimarama says he will accept the result but he has warned the incoming Government not to try to remove him or go ahead with its Reconciliation Bill, that he says favours the 2000 coup plotters.
"Take this message to the SDL Party, we're going to fight them all the way if that is going to be their message," he said.
"Whether they become government or not, if that is the message of Qarase as leader of the SDL Party, we're going to fight him all the way."
Commodore Bainimarama says he is not talking about fighting with guns but with words.
However, he said if the security situation deteriorates, he could not rule out imposing martial law.
