Israel warns nationals to leave Sinai 'immediately'
JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israel's counter-terrorism unit advised all nationals visiting the Sinai peninsula to "immediately" leave the neighbouring Egyptian territory citing "concrete" threats to kidnap Israelis.
"The threat of kidnapping Israelis along the Sinai coast has considerably increased and has become concrete over the past days," the unit said in a statement published on the website of the Israeli Prime Minister's Office.
The unit "strongly recommends all Israelis in Sinai to immediately leave the area," the statement said.
The travel warning was issued two weeks after a triple suicide bombing in the Red Sea resort of Dahab where 19 people were killed, including several foreigners.
Egyptian authorities blamed local Bedouins linked to an Islamic radical group for the April 24 attack.
