Taliban Leader takes over al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan, Bin Laden rumored in Iran
Mullah Omar, the Taliban’s fugitive leader, has taken over operations for al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Sources in Pakistan’s tribal region of Waziristan were quoted as saying Al-Qaeda is "very much active on the ground, but the sharp edges of circumstance have modified it into a new shape and it is now part of mainstream jihadi activity." Another source said: "Nowadays, Arabs go straight into Afghanistan and join various Taliban commanders." A third source, who said he was a member of the Taliban, said that "all global operations have been shunned for now. Actually, Sheikh [Osama bin Laden] does not have any money left." Rumors persist on bin Laden’s location as being in Iran under the Revolutionary Guards security agents hopes to use al Qaeda as another proxy against the West
The sources also said that three men representing Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had recently met Ayman al-Zawahiri in South Waziristan. Zawahiri told them to immediately stop attacking Shia Muslims in Iraq.
