Sri Lanka rebel territory bombed for second night
COLOMBO, June 16 (Reuters) - Sri Lankan government aircraft dropped bombs near the Tamil Tiger rebel headquarters of Kilinochchi for a second night on Friday, witnesses said.
Diplomats said they believed government attacks had been halted during the day while the funerals were held of 64 people killed in a suspected Tiger mine attack on Thursday -- the worst violence since a 2002 truce.
"The bombers came back," said a Kilinochchi security guard who did not give his name. "They bombed away from the town. Three to four bombs."
An aid worker sheltering in a bunker said they had also heard an explosion, but did not manage to count the number of bombs.
