Al-Qaida No. 2 calls for attacks on Israel
DOHA, Qatar, July 27 (UPI) -- The second in command of al-Qaida has released a video to a Qatar-based news network calling for Muslims to respond to Israel's actions in Lebanon and Gaza.
Ayman Al-Zawahiri said in the message, broadcasted by Arabic television station al-Jazeera, that the terrorist network would not allow the "Zionist-Crusader war" to go unchallenged, and that al-Qaida saw "all the world as a battlefield open in front of us," the BBC reported Thursday.
He said the fighting in Gaza and Lebanon underscores the importance of al-Qaida's operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Zawahiri said, "Oh Muslims everywhere, I call on you to fight and become martyrs in the war against the Zionists and the Crusaders," reported Xinhua, China's official government-run news agency.
The tape marked the first official al-Qaida response to Israel's military campaigns in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.
