Developments in Iraq on July 3

July 3 (Reuters) - The following are security and other developments in Iraq on Monday as of 0815 GMT.

MOSUL - Five people, including a policeman, were killed and 28, including four policemen, wounded when a car bomb went off in a crowded market in the northern city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Several mortar rounds landed in a crowded market in the Shaab northern district of Baghdad, wounding 10 people, police said.

BAGHDAD - A U.S. soldier died on Sunday when his vehicle was hit by an explosion during a combat patrol north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi police and U.S. forces killed one insurgent and detained 15 others after being attacked on Saturday night in central Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

ANBAR PROVINCE - A U.S. Marine died on Monday due to enemy action while he was in a military operation in Anbar Province, the U.S. military said.

DIWANIYA - Gunmen killed two alcohol traders near their houses in the southern city of Diwaniya, 180 km (112 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

HAWIJA - The Iraqi army freed two Iraqi soldiers held as hostages in the town of Hawija, 70 km (43 miles) southwest of Kirkuk, police said.

HAWIJA - Iraqi police found a beheaded body in the town of Hawija, police said.
