Israel's army estimates Hizbollah dead at 530
JERUSALEM, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Israel's army estimated on Monday that it killed 530 Hizbollah guerrillas during one month of fighting in Lebanon and said it had released names of 180 whose deaths had been verified.
Hizbollah has acknowledged only a few dozen dead during the conflict. The army statement came hours before a ceasefire was due to take effect under a U.N. Security Council resolution accepted by both sides.
"According to army estimates, over 530 Hizbollah terrorists have been killed since the start of fighting," the statement said. "Lists contain the names of 180 terrorists killed and whose identities were verified by the forces."
