Latest developments in the Middle East

Aug 4 (Reuters) - Here are developments on the 24th day of the Middle East crisis.

* Israeli air strike on parking lot near Syrian border causes 25 civilian casualties, Lebanese security sources say.

* Israeli jets bomb Hizbollah areas in southern Beirut and destroy four bridges north of the capital, cutting main coast highway to Syria and forcing U.N. to cancel aid convoys for 900,000 displaced people.

* Hizbollah fires dozens of rockets into northern Israel, killing one person and wounding several

* More than 150 Israeli air strikes reported in southern Lebanon, artillery pounds border areas.

* Al Arabiya TV says Hizbollah kills 5 Israeli soldiers in southern Lebanon, Israeli army says two of its soldiers and 10 guerrillas have been killed.

* Relief workers warn of worsening humanitarian crisis.

* U.S. Assistant Secretary of State David Welch to visit Beirut on Saturday for talks on ending the war, Lebanese political sources say.

* Israeli Defence Minister Peretz orders the army to prepare for possible push to Litani river, 20 km (13 miles) north of the border, security officials say.

* Hizbollah leader Nasrallah threatens to target Tel Aviv if Israel attacks central Beirut. He also offers to halt rocket barrage if Israel stops hitting civilian areas in Lebanon.

* Lebanese PM Siniora says war has killed 900 people in Lebanon and wounded 3,000, one-third of casualties children under 12, and displaced 1 million Lebanese.

* Reuters tally of deaths is 693 Lebanese, 69 Israelis including 41 soldiers.
