Albania-Greece arms smuggling ring busted

MPT: Seven people have been arrested in a major crackdown on weapons smuggling ring between Albania and Greece.

Albanian police said late on Sunday that one Greek citizen and an Albanian policeman have been busted in the course of operation.

The seven suspects were arrested over the weekend in the city of Elbasan, central Albania. During the operation, the police seized a large quantity of automatic rifles Kalashnikov and ammunition. The weapons and the ammunition were purchased in Albania upon a contract initiated by a Greek citizen George Kosmidis (28).

Albanian Interior Ministry said the smugglers had been tailed for several months and the weapons were intended for Greek market.
