IRAN: DIPLOMAT ARRESTED IN LONDON, REPORT
Tehran, 6 Nov. (AKI) - An Iranian diplomat has allegedly been arrested in London at the request of the United States, says Iranian website Baztab, which is close to Iran's revolutionary guards corps the Pasdaran. He is reportedly accused of smuggling military material and radar systems into the Islamic Republic. The diplomat, whose identity was not revealed by Baztab, was reportedly in London on a mission but to study, Baztab says.
In 2003 the British police arrested an Iranian diplomat, who was also allegedly in the British capital for study purposes. Iran's former ambassador to Argentina, Hadi Soleymanpour was arrested at the request of the Argentinian government on charges of being involved in the terror attack against the headquarters of AMIA, a Jewish association in Buenos Aires, in July 1994 which claimed the lives of 85 people.
Two weeks ago prosecutors in Buenos Aires also issued arrest warrants against former Iranian president Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, two former ministers, other diplomats and Pasdaran commanders in connection with the attack.
