Russia Tests SS-18 Strategic Missile
Russia successfully tested a strategic ballistic missile yesterday, Agence France-Presse reported (see GSN, Nov. 10).
The test of the SS-18, capable of carrying 10 nuclear warheads, was part of effort to extend the service lifetime of the SS-18 class.
“The missile was made 19 years ago,” said Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Kostyshin. “The launch was aimed at testing the possibility of prolonging the use of our missile systems” (Agence France-Presse, Dec. 21).
