Blast kills 2, wounds 10 in India's restive Assam

GUWAHATI, India, Jan 19 (Reuters) - A bomb hidden in a vegetable basket exploded in a crowded bus station in India's troubled northeastern state of Assam on Friday, killing two people and wounding 10, police said.

Police said they suspected rebels belonging to the separatist United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) were behind the blast in Assam's main city, Guwahati.

Police said the bomb was hidden in a vegetable basket, which was left at the crowded station which serves hundreds of commuters daily.

The insurgency -- which ULFA says is aimed at gaining Assam's independence from India -- has killed more than 20,000 people since it began in 1979.
