Security developments in Iraq, Feb 5

Feb 5 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq as of 1200 GMT on Monday:

* BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed Basim Abdul-Hussain, a director of land transportation at the Transportation Ministry, in a drive- by shooting in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb targeting a fuel station in the religiously mixed neighborhood of Saidiya in southern Baghdad killed 10 people and wounded 62, police said.

BAGHDAD - A car bomb near a vehicle workshop in the central Baghdad neighborhood of Nahdha killed eight people and wounded 40, police said.

* BAGHDAD - A car bomb exploded near a childrens' hospital in Andalus square in central Baghdad, killing six civilians and wounding nine, police said.

SAMAWA - Gunmen killed a policeman and wounded another in Samawa, 270 km (170 miles) south of Baghdad, a security source said.

MOSUL - Police clashed with gunmen in central Mosul and five civilians were wounded, police and hospital sources said.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi and U.S. forces killed Khadhim al-Hamadani, a top official of radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr's organisation, in a raid on his home north of Baghdad on Sunday.

MOSUL - A deputy to the governor of Mosul was wounded after a roadside bomb exploded near his convoy, police said. Three of his bodyguards were also wounded.

BASRA - A British soldier was killed on Monday by a roadside bomb in Basra, taking to 100 the number killed in action in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, the Ministry of Defence said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb exploded in Mustansiriya square in eastern Baghdad, wounding three people, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb exploded in eastern Baghdad wounding two people, police said.

KIRKUK - Police found a bullet-riddled body with signs of torture in the northern oil city of Kirkuk, police said.

NEAR KIRKUK - In a separate incident, police said they found a body with bullet wounds and signs of torture in the town of Shwan, 15 km north of Kirkuk.
