YEMEN: 95 KILLED IN CLASHES WITH SHIITE REBELS

Sanaa, 14 Feb. (AKI) - Ninety-five people have been killed in northern Yemen over the past two weeks in clashes between Shiite rebels and government troops, military officials have announced. Some 80 of those killed were followers of the rebel leader Imam Abdel Malik al-Houthi, while the remaining 15 were soldiers, the officials said. In an effort to curb the violence, religious leaders have been involved in talks to persuade the rebels to lay down their weapons in exchange for guarantees that they won't be prosecuted, the officials explained.
Yemen has recently accused Libya and Iran of aiding the rebels.
