Assad to Launch a PR Campaign
Harold's List
Washington DC, October 1, 2005/RPS/ -- In an effort to counter the effective campaign of international isolation Baschar al-Assad finds himself in because of his childish policies, Syria is embarking on a new PR campaign that includes a heavy travel schedule for Assad to Arab countries as well as visits to Russia, China, and India.
Part of this campaign is aimed at dispelling the notion that Syria may be behind the killing of Hariri in anticipation of a report by Detliv Mehlis that is expected to be damning not only of individuals in the Syrian regime but of a conspiratorial Syrian government that uses violence as a mean to solve many of the challenges it faces. Assad wants the world to believe he is innocent even before he is condemned.
The Mehlis report is supposed to be issued on October 24.
Rumors have it that Maher al-Assad is a prime suspect. Should that prove to be right, the Assad regime will be dealt a severe international blow that may see its end nearer than earlier anticipated. Maher al-Assad refused to appear in front of Mehlis when asked to.
