Madrasas linked to militancy to face stern action
Dhaka, Bangladesh: Education Minister Dr M Osman Farruk yesterday warned of stern measures against any madrasa to be found in cahoots with bomb terrorism and militancy during institutional investigations.
"It must be traced out who are involved in bombing in the name of establishing Islamic rule, whose purpose they are serving and who are behind them," he said.
He sounded the note of caution while addressing as chief guest a view exchange meeting with principals and examination centre secretaries of madrasas across the country at the Biam auditorium in the city.
State Minister for Education ANM Ehsanul Haq Milon was present as special guest at the meeting organised by the Madrasa Education Board in the wake of militant strikes at places and implication of some madrasa-educated youths in such acts.
Chairman of the Madrasda Board Prof Monirul Islam presided.
The minister said there is no relation between "mainstream Islam and so-called bomb-terrorism and militancy".
They carried out these misdeeds with an evil design to hold back Bangladesh from standing with dignity in the world community, he added.
Islam came in this country through peaceful way. "There is no scope for establishing Islamic ideology through bombings," he told his audience from the field of madrasa education.
Dr Farruk urged religious leaders to be alert about the quarters out to vilify Islam.
"The government is working to create science-educated and religiously idealistic human recourses through an upgraded madrasa education," he said.
He said country's pious Muslims do not believe in extremism. "Those who see Islam as a hindrance to progressive developments are provoking bombings in the country."
Milon said in the present context, united initiative is indispensable for overcoming the problem of militancy and bombings.
"People have already figured out those political parties who are creating barrier to government initiatives to uproot terrorism. These parties will obviously get a drubbing in the next election beyond the past proportion," he added.
Azizur Rahman MP, director general of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Prof Dilara Hafiz, chairman of the Technical Education Board Prof Dr Idris Ali, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, Maulana Kamal Uddin Jafri, Maulana Nesarul Haq and Maulana Sabbir Ahmed
