According to a poll conducted by the Political Center Association (PMD), 34 percent of people in Ankara believe the military is the most trustworthy institution in the country, while 73 percent believe there is no democracy within political parties.

In a briefing held by the PMD chairman Justice and Development Party (AKP) deputy Dr. Mahmut Koзak and PMD Director Dr. İdris Bal, Koзak said 68 percent of those who were asked whether the election system was fair said it wasn't, while 63 percent said the 10 percent election threshold ensured political stability.

At the top of the demands for political parties was intra-party democracy, followed by a good organization and public relations.

The military was the most trusted institution, according to the poll, followed by the presidency (15 percent), nongovernmental organizations (9 percent), political parties (8 percent) and Parliament (6 percent).

The judiciary and the media were seen as the most trusted by 0.3 and 0.4 percent of those who were questioned. Twenty-five percent said they didn't trust any institution.

Seventy-two percent said they were not happy with the government's performance, while 66 percent said the media were behind the power of political parties.

Close to three-quarters were for the election of the president by the people.

When asked which party they believed had the most democratic structure, the AKP received the backing of 28 percent, followed by the Motherland Party (ANAVATAN) with 12 percent, the Republican People's Party (CHP) at 10 percent, the True Path Party (DYP) 8 percent and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) with 7 percent.

Koзak said 1,179 people participated in the poll.
