Sri Lankan rebels, Indian Maoist militants linked
Dec 16, 2005: Outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist) has, for the first time, admitted that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam had provided them military training over one and half decades ago.
The Maoists "learnt newer warfare tactics from the LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) in 1986-87". The LTTE gave them training in producing and using landmines, rebel spokesman Azad admitted at a press conference. Azad, however, insisted that the CPI-Maoist had no connections with Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).
