UK Awards Lockheed $1.3 bln Helicopter Contract.
LONDON (Reuters): The British government has awarded a contract worth 750 million pounds ($1.33 billion) to Lockheed Martin Corp. (LMT) for the upgrade of Royal Navy Merlin helicopters, it announced on Thursday. The upgrade, under a programme called the Merlin Capability Sustainment Programme, is designed to keep the Merlin Mk1 helicopter effective until 2029 when it is planned to be taken out of service, the Ministry of Defence said in a statement.
Japan To Introduce Unmanned Spy Planes in 2007

Japan plans to deploy imported unmanned spy planes in the fiscal year from April 2007, its defense chief was quoted as saying Jan. 12, amid growing concern over China and North Korea.
The planes could gather intelligence on missiles as soon as they are launched and monitor hostile vessels and planes, Kyodo News quoted Defense Agency Director-General Fukushiro Nukaga as saying on a visit to London.
Raytheon wins ship missile contract
January 12, 2006 - 8:09AM-- Defence contractor Raytheon Co says it has received a $US152.5 million ($A203.88 million) contract to produce Evolved SeaSparrow Missiles for the US, Australia and five other allied nations.
Under the contract, Raytheon will make 198 SeaSparrow missiles, which are designed for ships to defend against air attacks.
They are to be delivered to Germany, Greece, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Australia and the US navy.
Raytheon said it would do half the work, with the rest done by international partners.
