Iran to ration petrol

Tehran, 2 Jan. (AKI) - The Iranian government has decided to limit the consumption of petrol to four litres a day, according to the local news agency Fars. Iran, which is one of the major oil producing nations in the world, has stated that by October every Iranian will be able to acquire only four litres of fuel a day. The decision, according to Fars, was taken at a meeting the government convened to finalise the state budget.

Iran, the third largest producer of crude oil in the world, does not have the adequate structures to refine petrol and therefore is forced to import petrol for its own needs. Sources close to the government say that the alternative to rationing the petrol would be to raise fuel prices.
