Italian oil company in Nigeria attacked, 9 dead
ISN SECURITY WATCH (Wednesday, 25 January: 10.40 CET) – Italy’s Agip oil company has said its offices in Nigeria have been attack by an armed gang, with the ensuing clashes resulting in the death of eight policemen and one civilian, news agencies reported.
Agip's parent company, ENI, said in a statement from Italy late on Tuesday: “The armed gang exchanged fire with the local security forces and made their way to a banking facility which is located on the base.”
Police were still investigating the late Tuesday attack in the southern city of Port Harcourt to determine whether the armed gang were part of the same group responsible for abducting four Shell Oil company employees two weeks ago.
