Macedonia, Bankers Petroleum sign deal
SKOPJE, Macedonia, May 9 (UPI) -- The Macedonian government and Canada's Bankers Petroleum are to cooperate on oil exploration in Macedonia, MIA news agency reported Monday.
Richard Wadsworth, president and director of Bankers Petroleum, and Macedonian Economy Minister Fatmir Besimi agreed the deal late Monday.
"We have a large project in Albania and wish to expand our activities in the region. Macedonia offers solid possibilities in that respect," Wadsworth said once the deal had been announced.
Bankers' team of experts will now begin to analyze the existing data on oil exploration activity in the former Yugoslav republic since the 1970s before deciding on the next phase.
Following the conclusion of a similar deal with Albania, Wadsworth said, Bankers invested $20 million in an 18-month oil exploration project.
