New Intelligence Centre Against Organised Crime

The Prime Minister, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, speaking in the Senate, has announced that a new Intelligence Centre Against Organised Crime is to be created in Spain.

Zapatero said that, after terrorism, this type of crime was presenting the largest risk to security in Spain.

There has been a recent spate of violent thefts from villas along the Spanish coastline, especially in the Girona area, and organised crime is thought to be behind many of the attacks.

The Interior Minister, Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba, has already promised to send more Civil Guards to the region.
