Iran plans a project to export oil to Europe through Syria
Tactical Report: Arab Gulf diplomatic sources say a part of difficult US-Iran talks revolves around an Iranian project to export oil to Europe through Syria.
According to these sources, former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani discussed the project with the Syrian officials when he visited Syria last month.
There are three routes to ship oil to Syria:
The first route begins from the Iranian coast and takes the direction of southern Iraq-Mosul-Syria.
The second one: Iran-Kurdistan Iraq–Mosul-Syria.
The third one: Iran-the Iraqi-Turkish border-Syria.
The last two routes are shorter than the first one, but all the three routes cannot pass without a prior Kurdish consent.
The same sources claim that Washington has already asked the Kurds not to agree to the project as it plans to tie it to all the other unsettled issues with Iran, including particularly the Iranian nuclear issue.
