U.S. embassy targeted by terrorists: Indian intelligence
The U.S. embassy in India is expected to be targeted by terrorists any time before July 30, Tuesday's Times of India reported.
The newspaper quoted a letter from a top Intelligence Bureau official to security agencies as saying that the attack is likely to be carried out by a group of 20 terrorists, some of whom have been part of terror attacks in other parts of the world, headed by a terrorist named Jawad Shah Shanas.
"The US embassy has been on extremely high state of alert and things will remain the same for the next few days," the report said quoting an anonymous source.
In response to the news story, the U.S. embassy in New Delhi told Xinhua over phone Tuesday: "It has always been the embassy policy not to comment on security issues. This has not changed. The U.S. embassy has no more operation Today."
According to the Times of India story, Indian intelligence arm received the input of the plot early last week and sent the information to all security agencies in Delhi, including the police and paramilitary forces, to check the security ring around the mission.
The story said the terrorists are armed with sophisticated weapons and could cause major damage.
