Security developments in Iraq, Oct 8

Oct 8 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq reported on Sunday as of 1100 GMT:

BAGHDAD - A U.S soldier died on Saturday when insurgents attacked his patrol, the U.S. military said.

BAGHDAD - Two roadside bombs near a police patrol in northeastern Baghdad wounded at least six policemen, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - A mortar round landed near a police patrol, killing one policeman and wounding two people, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb near a police patrol wounded a policeman in southern Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAQUBA - Gunmen killed four people in Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - Police found the bullet-riddled body of police Colonel Thamir Selman, deputy chief of the Interior Ministry internal affairs office, dumped in Baghdad on Saturday night, an Interior Ministry source said.

ISKANDARIYA - Mortar rounds on Saturday killed a man and wounded two others in Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

JURF AL-SAKHAR - Gunmen attacked a police patrol on Saturday while it was trying to retrieve a dumped body in the town of Jurf al-Sakhar, 80 km (60 miles) south of Baghdad. Police said one policeman was wounded.

SAMARRA - Gunmen killed a policeman and his 8-year-old son on Saturday in the city of Samarra, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

ISHAQI - Gunmen killed a farmer in the small town of Ishaqi, 100 km (60 km) north of Baghdad, on Saturday, police said.

BAIJI - Gunmen killed a university student on Saturday in Baiji, 180 km (112 miles) north of Baghdad, local authorities said.

TIKRIT - Four people were killed and one wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near their car in Tikrit 175 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

KHALDIYA - Police found three bodies blindfolded with signs of torture and bullet wounds in the town of Khaldiya 83 km (50 miles) west of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - One U.S. soldier was killed by a roadside bomb on Saturday in the northern city of Mosul, the U.S. military said in a statement.

BAGHDAD - Police retrieved three bodies with signs of torture and bullet wounds from the Tigris River in Baghdad, police said.

RABIA - A roadside bomb killed Colonel Yahya Hamid, the police chief of Rabia, a small town near the Syrian border, police said.

DIWANIYA - U.S. and Iraqi troops said they killed 30 gunmen on Sunday in the southern city of Diwaniya during an operation to detain a "high-value" suspect.
