Dec 27 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq as of 1130 GMT on Wednesday:

* Indicates new or updated item

* BAGHDAD - A car bomb killed eight people and wounded 10 in Talbiya, a Baghdad district near the Shi'ite militia stronghold of Sadr City, police said.

* NAJAF - A spokesman for radical Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al -Sadr's bloc accused U.S. forces of killing a senior Sadrist official near Najaf. The U.S. military said Iraqi army troops with U.S. advisers raided the home of a man implicated in a bomb attack on a police chief in October. A U.S. statement said a U.S. soldier shot the man dead after seeing him point his rifle at an Iraqi soldier during the raid.

U.S. military spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Christopher Garver had earlier denied any U.S. involvement. He later said that was because the operation was ordered and planned by Iraqi authorities so it took time for reports to reach Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - A total of 40 bodies were found, shot dead and most of them showing signs of torture, in different districts of Baghdad on Tuesday, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Clashes broke out in Sadiya, a mainly Sunni Arab district of Baghdad which also has some Shi'ite residents, after gunmen attacked police checkpoints in the area, residents said. It was not immediately clear if there were any casualties.

MOSUL - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol wounded four civilians on Tuesday in the northern city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol wounded five people, three policemen and two civilians, in Camp Sara district in eastern Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

BAGHDAD - Gunmen attacked a bus carrying employees of the Ministry of Higher Education and wounded two of them in a drive-by shooting in Yarmouk district in western Baghdad, an Interior Ministry source said.

SUWAYRA - A roadside bomb targeting an Iraqi army patrol killed three soldiers in the town of Suwayra, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, an army source said.

BAGHDAD - Iraqi army troops killed 32 insurgents and arrested 39 others during the last 24 hours in different parts of Iraq, the Defence Ministry said.

KUT - Gunmen killed a policeman on Tuesday night in Kut, 170 km (100 miles) southeast of Baghdad, police said.
