Saudi militant suspects arrested over bomb factory
RIYADH, Jan 16 (Reuters) - Saudi security forces said on Monday they had arrested five suspected militants in Riyadh who were accused of setting up a bomb-making factory.
A security source told Reuters the five men, including four Saudi nationals and one foreign resident whose nationality was not given, were seized in four different locations around the capital without resistance.
The improvised bomb-factory was uncovered in a villa northeast of Riyadh in a raid on Monday evening.
The five men were not on a list of 36 wanted militant suspects issued by the authorities last year.
Saudi Arabia, the world's leading oil exporter, has been fighting a campaign launched by Islamists sympathetic to al Qaeda in 2003 to topple the U.S.-allied monarchy.
After spectacular attacks on foreign residential compounds and government facilities, the violence has largely died down over the past year.
