Six soldiers killed in rebel attack in Darfur
ISN SECURITY WATCH (Wednesday, 25 January: 11.05 CET) - Rebels attacked the government-controlled town of Golo in Sudan’s Darfur region, killing six soldiers and injuring several others, news agencies reported.
The Sudan Liberation Army (SLA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Rebels in Darfur on Monday warned they would quit peace to protest Sudan’s bid to lead the African Union (AU), which has peacekeepers stationed in Darfur. However, earlier this week, Sudan lost its bid to lead the AU, and some other Darfur rebel groups said they would resume peace talks.
The AU chose the president of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, to lead the union.
